I have had quite a bit of down time lately. My semester ended about two weeks ago and doesn’t start back up for another ten days or so.
I haven’t had a ton of writing to do (The only writing I’m doing for other is at Fipath, you can check that out if you are so inclined). There haven’t been many demos for me to do on the weekends either.
So, I’ve been looking for some work outside of the house as well as adding some freelance writing back into my fold.
That still leaves a lot of free time for me so I’ve been trying to find little ways to earn money online. There’s quite a few ways to make a few bucks here and there. Some include writing sponsored posts for this blog.
If you aren’t familiar with what a sponsored post is basically you sign up with an organization or company that provides you opportunities from companies that are trying to spread the word about a product or website. I have signed up with a number of agencies that offer opportunities to write posts for them. Some offer you a set price and sometimes an amount is requested of you. One that has worked well for me lately is Blogsvertise. I’ve had quite a few recently for insurance companies.
You simply write a post and find a way to include their key words into the post, link to their site and you earn some income from the post. For example, with the insurance companies, I may have to use the key words like “compare discount insurance quotes online” and link to their site (as I did there) and viola, done!
I’ve also been filling out surveys when I can. There are a lot of companies that offer rewards and money for completing surveys. They are usually 10-25 minutes long and are not difficult to complete. I do this while I am sitting in front of the tv (especially lately during the Olympics) when I’m catching up on my favorite shows.
I have also signed up to do mystery shopping. I’m hoping to arrange some shops when I’m already out, running errands or on my way to and from school. It’s also a great way to get a free meal.
None of these ways are going to make enough money to pay the bills but they are helping. The survey sites often offer Amazon gift cards. I’m saving all of those and pairing them with the gift cards I earn from Swagbucks and plan to buy a Kindle Fire for myself (although I have a feeling I will end up using it on Christmas presents for the kids instead).
I plan to take the extra money I earn from this blog and from mystery shopping to help build my emergency fund which is currently sitting at a very scary zero! These little efforts can go a long way to make you some extra money too.
Have a blog? Make sure you are maximizing your site to earn income.
Have free time? Sign up to do some mystery shopping or complete surveys while watching tv.
Have a talent? Find a way to make money selling your talent, whether it is sewing something and selling it on Etsy or fixing up a beat up piece of furniture and selling it on Craigslist.
Find a way to make your free time work for you! Eventually those small dollars here and there will make for one big fund!
